LP Stiles, a jazz/funk group featured often on PFW, will be playing a show this Friday (March 19th) in Hoboken, NJ. The gig will take place at Bar Saints & Sinners (205 1st Street) and will feature Joseph Branciforte on drums. If you’re looking for something to do this Friday, LP Stiles put on one hell of a live show.
I’ve spent nearly the entire week in a self-indulgent rotation of Say Anything’s latest record (yeah, still) and Matt Morris’s When Everything Breaks Open. An urban mix of dub, soul, r&b, some John Mayer spice, and a bit of Timberlake make this album a versatile and intriguing mixture of style and sound.
PFW is a daily test for my patience as submissions role in, advertising unsung artists that want more exposure when indeed they probably should be focusing their efforts in other, non-musical fields. Shutters, on the other hand, are a simple reaffirmation of why we do what we do. Independent music CAN work and Shutters make it work with vibrant, flying colors.
For those of you who are frequent visitors of PFW, you might recall us briefly mentioning this group last spring as an Honorable Mention for April 09. The Ugly Club lands close to the heart here at PFW for two reasons. Reason number one: They happen to be (at least partially) from South Plainfield, N.J. Reason number two: They happen to be pumping out some very creative, original and fun music.
